The City of Williams Lake is comprised of several departments that provide specific services and roles for the municipality. Each of these departments works together for the betterment of the community.
The Corporate Services Department through the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), Director of Legislative Services and Executive Assistant are responsible for the overall management of the operations of the City. The department provides legislative support to the Mayor and Council and acts as the designated Information and Privacy Coordinator for the City.
The Community Services Department through the Director of Community Services are responsible for the management and delivery of a number of services aimed at community engagement. This includes the operations and management of the Cariboo Memorial Recreation Complex.
The Development Services Department through the Manager of Planning and Development are responsible for the overall management and regulation of development throughout the City. This includes the overview of the Building Inspector who assures the safety of development throughout the City.
The Economic Development Officer is responsible for the activities that the City undertakes to support initiatives such as business retention and expansion, with a specific focus on workforce development. They also oversee programs for residents, investor and visitor attraction.
The Financial Services Department through the Chief Financial Officer and Manager of Finance is committed to sound financial management of the City’s funds, debts, operational budget and investments. This includes the collection of taxes, utilities, accounts payable and receivable.
The Municipal Services Department through the Director of Municipal Services and Managers of Public Works are responsible for the overall management and operations of many of the City’s core services such as water & sewer, road & street maintenance and parks and playgrounds amongst others. They are also responsible for the management of the Williams Lake Regional Airport.
Williams Lake Fire Department
The Williams Lake Fire Department, through the Fire Chief, is responsible for the fire protection services for the City of Williams Lake and surrounding area. The WLFD also provides support through public education, Wildland Structure Protection and hazardous material decontamination services amongst others. As the Director of Protective Services, the Fire Chief also oversees Community Wellbeing and Safety, Bylaw Services, and Emergency Management.
