Home Owner Grants and Deferred Tax Loans

Home Owner Grant
The home owner grant reduces the amount of property tax you pay for your principal residence.

Effective 2021, all home owner grant applications are submitted directly to the Province - municipalities are no longer accepting applications!

To determine eligibility and apply:
     ▪ Visit gov.bc.ca/homeownergrant, or
     ▪ Call 1 888 355 2700 to speak to a live agent.

There are two categories of grants you may qualify for, depending on your situation, your age and home's assessed value - Basic Grant or Additional Grant.

The Home Owner Grant must be claimed grant each and every year you are eligible. You may claim the grant without making a payment.

Unclaimed grants constitute unpaid current taxes and are subject to penalties.

Defer Your Property Taxes

B.C. residential property owners may be able to apply for a low interest loan to pay their current year property taxes on principal residence.

Starting from 2020 the City is no longer responsible for accepting deferment applications - B.C. residential property owners could apply for property tax deferment on their principal residence online, quickly and easily. Owners could also choose to auto renew their application.

For more information on the deferment programs and to apply online:      ▪ Visit BC Government Property Tax Deferment Website
