COUNCIL HIGHLIGHTS

COUNCIL TO RESUME MEETINGS AT CITY HALL NEXT MONTH

City Council plans to resume in-person council meetings at City Hall on June 2 with enhanced health and safety protocols, following the Province’s Restart Plan in B.C. and the softening of restrictions around COVID-19. Council has been holding virtual meetings via Zoom since April.

CHAMBERS TO GET UPGRADE

Council authorized up to $15,000 to upgrade its telecommunications infrastructure and sound equipment in Council Chambers to allow remote access. The move is aimed at ensuring the City is able to conduct business in a responsible manner during an emergency.

GEOADVICE AWARDED SEWER MODELLING CONTRACT

Council awarded its Sanitary Sewer Modeling & Analysis Contract to GeoAdvice Engineering, for a quoted amount of $91,659, and total project value of $132,659. The project scope includes developing a comprehensive sanitary model capable of replicating the unique conditions of the City’s collection system, and completing a capacity review of the sanitary sewer system, including a 30-year capital infrastructure improvement program to identify any shortfalls and improvements to meet future needs.

DEVELOPMENT PERMIT APPROVED FOR LAUREN BROS.

Council approved a development permit application by Lauren Bros. Construction Ltd. to construct a new commercial building for Chucks Auto Supply on two vacant lots at 548 Mackenzie Avenue South and 272 5th Avenue South.

VARIANCE PERMIT APPROVED

Council has approved a variance permit application by Sue and Paul Zacharias to allow a detached garage in front of the principal building at 1533 Hwy 97 South. The 0.45-ha lot is zoned Single-family Residential.

CCCTA GRANT APPLICATIONS

Council authorized the submission of two applications to the Cariboo Chilcotin Coast Tourism Association’s ’Tourism Development Grant’ program for up to $9,000 toward a bike wash station at the Tourism Discovery Centre and up to $35,000 toward electrical works for the installation of power supply and lighting for the Nekw7usem Bridge on the RC Cotton pedestrian trail.

YELLOWHEAD WINS CONTRACT

Yellowhead Pavement Marking Ltd has been awarded the 2020 pavement marking contract, at a tender price of $98,283.78.
