Accessibility Award of Merit issued to WL Association for Community Living

Williams Lake Association for Community Living representatives Stefan Hoelzler and Tammy Fisher attended the Tuesday, February 22 Council Meeting to accept an Accessibility Award of Merit from the City of Williams Lake. Mayor Walt Cobb presented the award, thanking Hoelzler and Fisher for the numerous accessibility upgrades to their facility. Williams Lake Accessibility Advisory Committee Chair Maureen Straza also thanked the WLACL for its work.

Mayor Cobb to attend Council of Forest Industries 2022 Annual Convention

Council approved meals, travel, compensation and other associated expenses for Mayor Cobb to attend the Council of Forest Industries 2022 Annual Convention. The convention is scheduled to take place from April 27-29 in Vancouver.

Council lends support to CRD's NCLGA resolutions

Council agreed to support the Cariboo Regional District's resolutions submitted to the North Central Local Government Association Membership for the upcoming 2022 Annual General Meeting in May.

The resolutions include creating a stable source of Provincial funding for the Forest Enhancement Society and for parental leave provisions enabling elected officials who are new parents to take time off without being disqualified from their elected positions.

The CRD approved the two resolutions during its February 4, 2022 regular board meeting.

Dry grad committee gets expanded storage

Council endorsed an agreement with the Williams Lake Dry Grad Committee for the use of two 40-footstorage containers on vacant industrial land behind the maintenance building at the Williams Lake Regional Airport for a five-year term commencing March 2022.

The airport site offers storage behind the maintenance garage of a road not open to the public.

Aviation fuel tank tender awarded

Council awarded the contract for a new aviation fuel tank at the Williams Lake Regional Airport to Doering Petroleum Ltd. for the tendered price of $106,255.

The 50,000-litre aviation fuel tank will provide storage for additional fuel that will help protect the airport from supply chain interruptions.

During the Council meeting Mayor Cobb noted the cost is being fully funded through the Regional Air Transportation Initiative (RATI).

Stampede Park lease renewals

Council endorsed a recommendation to approve second and first renewal agreements for Stampede Park user groups for a five-year term.

The six community user groups that use the City's Stampede Park grounds include the Cariboo Friendship Society, the Cariboo Heritage Park Society, the Gavin Lake Forest Education Society, the Williams Lake Curling Club, the Williams Lake Stampede Association and the Williams Lake Trail Riders.

Cariboo Kennel Club gets new home

The Cariboo Kennel Club will be moving from its former home at the Stampede Grounds to lands situated at the Williams Lake Regional Airport. Council endorsed a two-year lease agreement, with an option to renew for an additional two years, to the Cariboo Kennel Club. The site is located at the old housing area of the airport.

Council to ask CCRHD to reconsider long-term care bus funding

Council agreed to to write a letter to the Cariboo Chilcotin Regional Hospital District asking them to reconsider their decision to not support a funding request from Interior Health for a long-term care bus.

Council noted in the past the bus has been funded through the regional health authority, and stressed the importance of the service to seniors in the community living in long-term care homes.

More winter recreation opportunities on table

Council deferred a request to authorize$65,000 from the pandemic fund to the Community Services Department and the Municipal Services Department for further outdoor recreational equipment and opportunities in Williams Lake to its2022 budget process for consideration.

Council settles on insurance provider

Council supported renewal of insurance coverage with HUB International at a cost of $190,125 for one year, and to put the opportunity out for bid for following years.

Staff directed to begin process to develop code of conduct

Council directed staff to bring back information on other jurisdictions' codes of conduct and other best practices for Council's consideration as the first step of drafting a Code of Conduct for City of Williams Lake Council.
