Solid Waste Management Review Report dated March 16, 2017
- Prepared by Stuart Lilley for the City of Williams Lake
Executive Summary
The Stuart Lilley report was commissioned by the City of Williams Lake to examine and review details of the current solid waste management program and to provide recommendations on managing the waste function overall. The review examined the roles, responsibilities and effectiveness of The City of Williams Lake, The Cariboo Regional District, Central Cariboo Disposal, and Taseko/Gibraltar Mines. The report was highly complementary of all parties involved. The review identified several opportunities to enhance environmental benefits, and financial costs associated with solid waste. These improvements would see a greater portion of recyclables diverted from the waste stream, and examine options to recapture or contain costs as well as extend the service life of the current landfill site. In the coming months, the City of Williams Lake will discuss with its partners which of these recommendations can be incorporated to further enhance service delivery in an environmentally / fiscally sustainable way.
