City of Williams Lake Economic Development Office Preparing

As the COVID-19 situation continues to evolve, the City of Williams Lake continues to work to support our residents and businesses as we all prepare the best we can for the challenging times ahead.

“We are well prepared in the Cariboo region to provide support and direction for business owners in the area,” states Economic Development Officer Beth Veenkamp. “Unfortunately, we are too familiar with the kinds of impacts that may fall on our business community but fortunate that we are able to use those past experiences to support businesses now.”

Today, the Economic Development Department is releasing information for business owners that will provide links to helpful resources and legislative requirements for employers.  The department intends to keep working through this situation and to provide supports to the business community.  The department will also actively engage with local business development partners, Community Futures, Downtown Williams Lake Business Association, and the Williams Lake and District Chamber of Commerce to ensure a coordinated effort.

“It is important to recognize that although some of us may feel a little panicked and scared right now, we are going to have to be patient and wait for answers to come,” says Veenkamp.  “There have been significant announcements made by the Federal government and I expect more will follow from the Provincial government with respect to programs that will be made available to businesses.”  She adds, “what is important to know is that we need to be patient while the details are released.  Just like with the Business Recovery supports issued by the Red Cross from 2017, I have complete confidence that they will come, but the rollout will take some time.”

The City will update its residents as soon as any developments occur. For up-to-date information regarding the local response to the COVID-19 situation, with relevant links to current information, visit
